January 多読: Wingin’ it

with 3 comments

Typically, I have a long list of stuff to read several days before the start of 多読 – not so, this time. I figure I have enough half-read visual novels to at least carry me well into February, not to mention a handful of books and manga I’ve barely scratched, so I don’t really feel the need to compile a big ol’ list. We’ll see what my whims gravitate toward.

I do know that this 多読 will be much lighter than usual, however. I’d like to spread my focus (something I’m absolutely terrible at and vow to fix), keep up grammar SRSing and translating and, most importantly, not burn myself out for the next some months. ( ´∀`) So I’m aiming for more like 2,000 pages rather than my “usual” 3,000.

So yeah, here’s to a fun and successful 多読 and 2012!

  1. Aww, no big cheesy list of resolutions? I’m a bit disappoint =(
Alright, not really. Glad to see you’re still around, though, and kicking it with 多読。
By the way, speaking of visual novels – of which I am quite the fan – have you tried Fate/stay Night yet? Type Moon recently started releasing a port of its PS2 version as a download on Amazon. (Sneaky jerks split it into three, a separate product for each release….bahhh. At least it’s not too pricey, but still.)

Anyway. Lurker, first comment. Love the blog, have borrowed some of your techniques. I’m pretty into learning J myself, but used to only read AJATT, which gave me an image of capitalist supermen who submerged themselves completely in Japanese and came out polyglot gods. \o/ Glad to know there’s some humanity in the language learning pool.

So yeah, keep it up, man.

PS. Played the Taiken of Danganronpa and it blew me away. Like, I could feel the money lifting out of my wallet and into Playasia’s fat, fat pockets. Can’t wait to sink my teeth into it this year.

    • Hey David, thanks for the comment! Always cool to see that I have fellow learners reading (what little I post these days 汗) this little ol’ blog. I really appreciate the kind words, and feel for ya on the AJATT sentiments (as a big fan of AJATT, of course, but ( ´∀`)).

As for F/SN, it’s definitely on my list. I’d honestly like to get through the rest of Umineko first, since F/SN is notoriously huge and I’m already in the middle of one too many things. At this rate, I might just wait for the PC port of Realta Nua.

And as for Danganronpa… you’re in for something special. Can’t say enough good things about it.

      • Sweet, thanks for the prompt reply man. And likewise, always good to see fellow learners sharing how their process actually works instead of their ideals about their progress, y’know xD?

Umineko’s definitely on my list, too. Once, I was trolling around on JustinTV and fell into someone playing some visual novel. I heard the voice acting and was immediately entranced. Of course, i eventually put together the characters and figured out I was watching the souped up, PS3 version of Umineko, but it’s been on my list since. Something tells me I should slog through Higurashi first, though, so I’ve been prodding at the Taiken from time to time. I’m pretty cheap, though, and love me some 完結, so I’ve been a bit hesitant xD

        DGNP, can’t wait, w.
